For most people, summer is the best time of the year; for gamers, not so much. Major publishers and developers usually wait to release their most important games in the months leading up to the holiday season, while generally forgetting about the summer. This year is a little different, but not by much. Sure, Sony recently responded to Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade, but now they can focus on the most important (and busy) time of the year.

September is jam-packed with great offerings from Sony. Here’s the line-up.

Resistance 3 (Release Date: September 6th)

The much anticipated shooter is back with a much darker tone, and a different protagonist. The first two games of the series showed us that Nathan Hale couldn’t save Earth from the Chimeran invasion. We lost the war, and therefore control of the planet. In the third entry to the series, Joseph Capelli comes with a different approach. He’s not fighting for the faceless military anymore; he’s fighting for his family.

Resistance 3: Doomsday Edition (Release Date: September 6th)

Resistance 3 was built to support the PlayStation Move as well as 3D, why not offer a bundle? Included in the Doomsday Edition is the full game, a PlayStation Move controller, a PlayStation Move Navigation Controller, the PlayStation Eye and a Sharpshooter attachment. Resistance 3: Doomsday Edition will cost $149.99. Buying the bundle (as opposed to buying everything separately) will save you roughly $50.

God of War: Origins Collection (Release Date: September 13th)

If you’re a God of War fan, but you don’t have a PSP, this collection is for you. Included on one Blu-Ray disc are both titles that were previously only for the PSP. God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta have both been fully remastered in HD, complete with trophies. Available for $39.99, this seems like a must buy for Kratos fans.

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection (Release Date: September 27th)

Rumors of this collection have been going around for quite some time, but it’s finally going to happen. Two of PlayStation 2’s best games will soon be available in one package. Both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus have been fully remastered in HD, they’ve both been given trophies, and both will be available in 3D. Sounds like a good deal for everybody who missed these classics on the PS2, especially at the $39.99 price point.

Lesser known titles that will also be available for the PS3 in September:

  • Dead Island (Release Date: September 6th)
  • Driver: San Francisco (Release Date: September 6th)
  • Warhammer 40K: Space Marine (Release Date: September 6th)
